Byron Donalds Makes His Closing Pitch on Newsmax After Trump's Packed Daytona Beach Rally
The Republican nominee for governor told Newsmax on Saturday that Friday's packed Daytona Beach rally showed Florida voters are energized, predicted victory on Tuesday, and put affordability - a plan to cut insurance premiums 20 percent - at the center of his close.
Republican Byron Donalds carried his closing argument for Florida governor to Newsmax on Saturday, a day after President Donald Trump rallied a packed house in Daytona Beach. Donalds, who is seeking to succeed term-limited Gov. Ron DeSantis, said the Friday night crowd was still growing during the president's speech and predicted victory in Tuesday's election.
Affordability, Donalds said, is the leading concern among Florida voters. He outlined plans to reduce housing costs, lower insurance premiums by 20 percent and lower property taxes, including eliminating homestead property taxes, and he sharply criticized his Democratic opponent, former congressman David Jolly, accusing him of changing positions as he changed parties - a charge reported here as the candidate's own campaign argument.
Donalds also predicted Republican Sen. Ashley Moody would defeat Democratic challenger Angie Nixon, and he closed by urging Republicans to vote Tuesday to keep the governorship, the state Legislature and Congress in Republican hands. Florida voters decide the race on Tuesday, November 3, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Leon County's final day of early voting runs Sunday at 10 sites.
