John Washington III Calls for Independent Funding for the Courts and All Three Branches
John Washington III argued that when Congress controls the courts' funding, the justice system becomes dependent instead of balanced, and he called for guaranteed, independent funding for all three branches with full public accountability.

John Washington III is calling for guaranteed, independent funding for the federal courts and for all three branches of government, arguing that a branch that can be squeezed financially by another cannot serve as a real check on it.
In the remarks the Tallahassee desk reviewed this cycle, John Washington III pointed to 2025, when he said the federal courts had to scale back paid operations because of a funding lapse. "That's not balance. That's dependence," he wrote. "If one branch can squeeze another financially, then checks and balances start to crack."
John Washington III framed the issue around an ordinary person in court without a $10,000 lawyer, saying judges must be free to protect constitutional rights rather than worry about politics or budgets. He stressed that his proposal is not unlimited money: it pairs independent funding with full public accountability and a bar on political retaliation, which he described as protecting the people's rights and restoring real independence among the branches.
