Driver Killed After Pickup Leaves U.S. 98 in Wakulla County, Strikes a Tree and Burns, FHP Says
The Florida Highway Patrol says the westbound pickup left Coastal Highway near Rehwinkle Road at about 2:15 a.m. Saturday; the driver, the only person in the truck, died at the scene and has not been identified.

A driver was killed early Saturday after a pickup truck ran off U.S. 98 in Wakulla County, struck a tree and became engulfed in flames, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The single-vehicle crash happened at about 2:15 a.m. on October 31 on Coastal Highway, the name U.S. 98 carries through Wakulla County, near Rehwinkle Road.
Troopers said the pickup was traveling west when, for a reason the preliminary investigation has not determined, it left the roadway to the right and hit a tree. The truck became fully engulfed in flames after the collision. The driver, the vehicle's only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Highway Patrol's initial report did not identify the driver or give an age or hometown, and it indicated that next of kin had not been notified when the report was prepared, so no name is being published. Wakulla County EMS, the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office and Wakulla County Fire Rescue assisted troopers at the scene, and the crash remains under investigation.
