Leon County will observe Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 3, and Veterans Day on Wednesday, Nov. 11, with closures and service changes that do not affect voting itself. Closed on both days are Leon County offices, libraries, community centers and Animal Control, along with the county Solid Waste Management Facility, the Household Hazardous Waste Center and the Rural Waste Service Centers. County parks, greenways, campgrounds and boat landings remain open, and early voting sites and Election Day polling places located in county libraries and community centers will be open during voting hours, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

For households, the two holidays are not the same. Residential waste collection will not change for Election Day, but for Veterans Day it will be delayed one day for the rest of that week - Wednesday collection moves to Thursday, Thursday to Friday, and Friday to Saturday. The county advises residents to check Waste Pro's holiday schedule, and lists the Solid Waste Management Division at 850-606-1800 for more information.

The City of Tallahassee will also close its administrative offices on Tuesday, Nov. 3. City garbage and recycling collection will run on its regular schedule with no change during the holiday week. StarMetro, the city's transit system, will operate a regular schedule with night service on Election Day, and the city will offer fare-free rides on StarMetro's regular fixed-route service and on Dial-A-Ride on Election Day - a free ride to the polls for any voter who needs one. The city's Animal Service Center will be closed on Nov. 3 and resumes normal hours on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
