Tallahassee Man Sentenced to Nine Years in Federal Prison for the Z-Mart Robbery on Fred George Road (Tallahassee Watch News)

A Tallahassee man will spend nine years in federal prison for robbing a Leon County convenience store at gunpoint in January. Laquinton Harris, 36, of Tallahassee, was sentenced to 108 months in federal prison for Hobbs Act robbery, brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Florida. Harris pleaded guilty in August.

Court records showed that a masked gunman robbed the Z Mart convenience store at 4015 Fred George Road on January 30, 2026, and discharged his firearm into the floor during the robbery. On April 2, agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives executed a federal search warrant at Harris' residence and found a .22-caliber rifle, which ballistic testing showed matched the shell casing found in the Z Mart.

The sentence is structured as 24 months for the robbery and felon-in-possession counts, followed by a consecutive 84 months for brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence. After prison, Harris will serve five years of supervised release and was ordered to pay $547 in restitution to the Z-Mart. The case was investigated by the ATF and the Leon County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney James A. McCain.
