Florida Early Voting Turnout Passes 5.24 Million Ballots on the Final Day, Tracker Shows (Tallahassee Watch News)

Florida's early vote passed 5.24 million ballots on its final day. The On Point Politics early vote tracker, which counts ballots reported by state election offices through civicAPI, put the total at 5,243,216 on Sunday, November 1 - 3,316,937 ballots cast in person and 1,926,279 returned by mail.

The party split is close. Registered Republicans cast 40.6 percent of the ballots and registered Democrats 37.7 percent, a Republican lead of 2.9 points, with voters of other parties or no party affiliation casting the remaining 21.8 percent. The tracker is explicit that party registration shows who has voted, not how they voted. Another 550,106 mail ballots have been requested and not yet returned; to count, a mail ballot must be in the county elections office's hands by 7 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3.

The pace is ahead of the last midterm. The tracker notes the 5.24 million ballots already equal 100 percent of the 5.06 million early ballots cast in all of 2022, amount to 67.2 percent of that year's total turnout, and are running about 10 percent ahead of the comparable pace. Early voting ends Sunday in Leon County and across Florida; on Tuesday, polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and voters cast ballots at their assigned precincts.
